In many ways, we are fortunate that, in our chosen profession, we are able to help people when certain disasters occur: the tornadoes in Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Georgia, the flooding in Louisiana, the snows in the northeastern part of the country, the rain in California, and the snow in Colorado....

As we enter the dawn of a new era, some of us are filled with optimism, while others are pessimistic, and still others are not sure. But there’s no question that our country will change. These changes will happen in many ways, but one thing I’m certain of is that we’re going to see a different business climate....

For most people, the sight of a storm drain does little more than make them grip their keys just that little bit tighter. Any engineer or contractor assessing a jobsite, however, will have a different train of thought. To them, a storm drain is not a point of no return as much as it is a point of great expense....

Keeping up with stormwater runoff can be a full-time job—and for many of us it is! Stormwater management is especially challenging for contractors who work in longestablished cities. Many of these older communities do not have the proper drainage systems in place to handle any flex in overflow volume....

When the housing boom started, it set up a pattern for other markets as well. In an effort to keep up with the demand for more housing, raw land was developed. This land was planned out and new roads had to be built. As each builder or developer built larger projects, they had to construct streets and cut pads for new homes....
