Colorado Cities Join Forces to Manage Stormwater The cities of Pueblo and Colorado Springs are partnering up to battle stormwater. The biggest issue they want to address is flooding on Fountain Creek. Some residents have lost as many as ten acres of land, due to insufficient stormwater management and flooding in the area....

The city is allowing artists to paint semi-permanent murals along the storm drains, all designed to let people know where the stormwater is headed. At an upcoming BBQ festival, attendees will vote on the murals, and the winner will be used as the design for the city’s upcoming Rail Fest Water Run....

Eroding Hill Creates Hazard: A certain waterfall in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is viewed as an eyesore rather than a natural beauty. The result of a chamber formed from erosion into a local hillside, the ‘waterfall’ has caused up to $20,000 in local property damage when an intense storm struck the area....

Erosion from the Shoreacres Creek has been exposing tree roots and expanding the creek bank for a number of years. Complaints to the city have likely not been heard, as city officials have not included the area in plans for future erosion control projects for the next decade....

Over the past six to eight months, they have taken a beating from Mother Nature. From superstorm Sandy to the heavy rain that fell just recently, erosion of these beaches has been massive. Most of us don’t fully understand the herculean job it’s going to take to put these beaches back together again....

The fire season has been said to start in late August or early September. However, this year was different. It started in June when a fire broke out in New Mexico, and moved into Arizona. Another fire broke out in Arizona, killing 19 firemen, the most tragic news of all....

Arizona’s Granite Mountain Recreation Area, closed in June by the “Doce” fire, has recently been reopened to the public. The recreation area, near Prescott, includes the Granite Mountain Wilderness, Granite Basin Lake and trails in the vicinity. A section of hiking trails remains closed at this time....

In many ways, we are fortunate that, in our chosen profession, we are able to help people when certain disasters occur: the tornadoes in Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Georgia, the flooding in Louisiana, the snows in the northeastern part of the country, the rain in California, and the snow in Colorado....
