It seemed like a perfect opportunity to get this country moving again, but alas, it failed miserably. I’m not very politically savvy, but I realized that by handing this stimulus money to the cities and municipalities, very little—if any—was going to filter down to where it would make a difference....

As I read through all the various articles that cross my computer, it’s just dawned on me…where is all the work? Not a day goes by when I don’t see something about this company being fined for a soil erosion violation, or that municipality fined for stormwater contamination....

I don’t know if it’s my imagination or what, but it appears as though I’m receiving more communications from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) these days. What’s interesting is that the EPA seems to be coming down hard on violators of the Clean Water Act and the NPDES regulations....

As I watched the power of the tsunami while it rolled over parts of Japan, it hit me how strong the forces of Mother Nature really are. We saw the effects of the tsunami that hit Indonesia last year and the damage it brought, but watching this one as it made its way across parts of Japan was in some terrible way fascinating to watch. I was stunned to see the devastation it left behind....

While winter is still around in many parts of the country, I’m looking forward to spring and trying to predict how this year will play out. I wish I could look into a crystal ball and see what the business climate will be like this year, but I can’t. So I can only go by my experience and gut feeling....

Remember the stimulus package that President Obama promised that would help filter down some money for improvements and repairs? It seems that was a lifetime ago. Was that money ever released . . . and who received it?...

In many ways, we are fortunate that, in our chosen profession, we are able to help people when certain disasters occur: the tornadoes in Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Georgia, the flooding in Louisiana, the snows in the northeastern part of the country, the rain in California, and the snow in Colorado....
