Indiana Awards Drainage Improvement Grants
The
cities of Franklin and Edinburgh, Indiana, are among the recipients of
$9.3 million in grants to upgrade the stormwater systems in 11 cities
and towns..
Edinburgh’s stormwater pipes have become clogged with sediment, rocks and debris. The east side of town flooded in 2008. The drainpipes were built more than 40 years ago. Franklin’s grant will pay for reinforcing and cleaning out a large drain. Residents have complained of standing water in their yards and streets after heavy rainfall.
Construction on this project could start as early as next September. Complete repair and clean-up would cost an additional $5 million, according to city officials. The Indiana Office of Community and rural Affairs provided these grants.
