Program Promotes Improvements

Landscape contractors in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, should be on the lookout for a wave of stormwater jobs spurred on by a newly implemented program. The Stormwater Best Management Practices Cost-Share Program will reimburse 50% of the costs of any project that improves water infiltration. Rain gardens, pervious pavement and soil conditioning are just a sampling of the types of projects that could receive up to $2,000 worth of funding from the city.

The program has $25,000 in funding from stormwater utility fees, and operates on a first-come/ first-serve basis. A property owner must submit an application that meets city standards, arrange a site visit, sign a maintenance agreement and submit all receipts to the city before a reimbursement can be sent.
