Cities Join Force To Manage Stormwater
The cities of Pueblo and Colorado Springs in Colorado are partnering up to battle stormwater. The biggest issue they want to address is flooding on Fountain Creek. Some residents have lost as many as ten acres of land, due to insufficient stormwater management and flooding in the area.
The mayor for Colorado Springs wants to re-start funding for stormwater management by putting $19 million a year towards the project; funding was originally cut for the project in 2010. “We have an obligation to the folks in Pueblo to do the best job we can to mitigate those impacts on Fountain Creek,” the mayor said.
According to the assistant city manager for stormwater, the official plan is to rebuild and clean affected areas in October, when the flood season has ended. Issues include damages embankments, debris piles, and ruined trails.
